How ironic that on the afternoon that our Battlins' off load the man that was supposed to restore power to the lineup, the team clocks 5 dingers without him, while beating the Brew Crew in dramatic fashion?
Wrap up your Adam Laroche bobbleheads and make room for your Garrett Jones bobbleheads, as LaRoche and his perpetual .250 BA are
shipped off to Beantown in exchange for a young pitcher and shortstop. The impact here is more on the never ending Jack Wilson/Fred Sanchez saga, as the team finally obtains a young middle infielder capable of playing in the bigs.
QUICK HITTERS:
- PittsburghFan policy prevents us from speculating on the recent Big Ben sex scandal, however sources close to us say that the plaintiff is "hot and crazy".
- With LaRoche's overdue departure, Jones is now the team leader in homers, with 9 in just 68 at bats.
- 9 extra base hits today...not bad.

Did I just see that the 'rats just traded Freddie S for some minor league prospects? I know they don't have a farm system to brag about...looks like they are at opposite poles with the eastern part of the state...when will we see the results of this trade..2013
Cheers to MP!!!
I'm glad the tax-payer funded ball yard is helping the Succos be competative. If they were still in 3 Rivers...high school teams would be better.
Look who the Buccos have gotten rid of since 2002:
Jason Bay, Brian Giles, Nate McLouth, Xavier Nady, A. Rameriez (3B), Jack Wilson, Freddie Sanchez, Jason Kendall, Jason Schmidt....and there are probably more decent players that I've forgotten about.
I can only agree with MP on one comment: you have to work hard to be this bad. That is what they are in right in now. The Littlefield years are the baseball version of the Matt Millen years in Detroit. This is 15+ plus years of bad drafting, abysmal development, and underachievement.
Before we lament and run the tired argument about all these awesome vets traded away over the years, let's remember that these were the same vets that attained the losing records. This is the same Bay and LaRoche that you all ridiculed two years ago.
Give this new group a chance. They clearly said that 2009 would be the transition year. These deals have to be made. Sanchez was my favorite Buc, but I support this deal. They said the same thing about Charlie Morton, and he's already come in and pitched very well.
Should the Bucs not break .500 next season, I will personally mail every reader (all seven of you) a brand new 20 dollar bill. This team is going to finally get it right, and is going to surprise folks.
They are not going to break .500 next year. I will bet you $100 on that right now. The kids won't be ready til 2011. Next year is going to be very painful.
Make it $50 and you're on.
Deal - $50 bugs. They are going to stink so bad next year it ain't even funny.
It is going to make the Pens team the year before they got Mario look like a Cup contender.
I know I am hater right now - but I have hope for 2011 and beyond. If that doesn't work out...then I am offically done with them.

Love looking at the Pirate leader board and seeing the nat’s, red sox, and giants hats on the heads. Awesome!
Also, it seems the new payroll total is 26M. 14 on pitching and 12 on the rest of the field. They started the season at 48.7 At the time they were the 3rd lowest behind sandiego 42.7 and florida36.8. I didn’t figure out what they are spending now, but I am guessing we are the low man on the totem pole.
Wonder if they are groaning about Doumit making 2.1 and Vazquez making 1.9 ? they should be pissed about Capps and his 2.4.
I know BSW is smarted than me ( he tells me all the time) and these are tired argument, but it seems like the facts are facts. They aint spending no money on talent and it shows in the win column.
Count me in on the 50 beans for 82 wins.
Make it $100. I know it. It's not that I'm smarter, it's just that I'm less angry.
Hey MP...that page is freaking awesome!!!
The Succos are making money and people still go (we love our fire works and bobbleheads) - why would Nutting change the reciepe.
He spent ~$220 milion and makes $20 to $40 mil per season. Not too shabby. Wish he would sink some of the ching in 7 Springs and upgrade the ski lifts and eateries.
I will give the GM til 2011 (guess I am a sucker too) - but he has blown this thing so far up, it'll be interesting. They are going to suck so bad next year. They should lose 100...maybe even 110.
give me the hundo action - I brought it up first. I feel like Tavaras Jackson to MP being Favre.
Your argument is so poor, I want to raise you personally to $200 - is Mellon willing to stake you? Ok, maybe they won't get the winning season in 2010 (I think they will), but 110 losses is ridiculous.
What you both are forgetting is this team was inferior at $43 Mill. MP himself, after a bottle or three of vino, graded it out at an F at mid terms. (comments are there). So, if you know you're having a shitty meal, would you prefer to pay $20 or $10?
As a business owner, I realize it's a sin to want to save money and make a few shells. But mark these words, they will bring in a free agent or two next year. This team has good starting pitching, all under 30, and they will get the hitters. And remember, the best three hitters weren't traded.
I would bet more but I must conserve my dollars in order to properly care for my people at all the upcoming Steeler games!
I'll go $200 on a sub-.500 season in 2010. Just let me know that it's on.
And what free agent worth his paycheck wants to come to Pittsburgh?
